Experience the "Deck The Falls" holiday event in Niagara Falls
The 2017 Winter Festival of Lights, happening in Niagara Falls, is a wonderful way to experience the best of what the region has to offer this Holiday season!
Deck the Falls Holiday Walking Tour is a 13 venue tour where participants visit spaces and partake in a holiday activity at each. At each location, you'll be treated to stunning holiday décor and attractions (5 of which have been transformed by celebrity designer and another 5 by student designers from Humber). Enjoy seasonal beverages at the Hilton, Old Stone Inn, and Marriott, culinary sampling at the R5 Lounge in the Fallsview Casino, and frozen maple syrup at the Holiday Inn. The tour ticket includes Incline Railway passes at Table Rock, Christmas crafting at the Oakes Hotel, a pair of commemorative Deck the Falls mittens, and more!
We had the chance to experience this exciting event and here’s a look at how our evening went.
Pick up your Deck the Falls Gloves at the Scotiabank Convention Centre
With our tickets came a pair of red “Deck the Falls” gloves, compete with special fabric on the fingertips so that you can use your smart phone and share your experience on social media as you move from stop to stop. Use the hashtag #WFOL
Fallsview Casino - Taste & Mingle
We enjoyed a complimentary culinary sampling at the luxurious R5 lounge, complete with a stellar view of the Falls.
Marriott Fallsview - Gourmet Tastings & Life Size Games
They served up a delicious artisan grilled cheese sandwich with apple pear cranberry chutney, along with housoe chips and curry aioli. There was also a giant sized Lite Brite to play with.
Old Stone Inn - Chill be Gone
This offering was for one specialty alcoholic marshmallow drink and the chance to roast marshmallows at the outdoor warming station. We also made our own s’mores but ate them a bit too fast for a picture...they were that good! Definitely a cozy atmosphere to be enjoyed here.
Oakes Hotel - Christmas Crafting: Take part in Christmas Craft Workshops or Demonstrations
This was one of our favourite stops as Janine and Shannon from My Painted House were quite helpful in teaching me how to take a regular slab of wood and transform it into a creative decoration.
They had “JOY” templates and with a bit of creative thinking and some tape, they helped us transform it into “JAY”. Definitely a must visit stop and check out their site for more info!
Holiday Inn by the Falls - Maple Taffy On Snow
One of the most patriotic stops on the tour, here is where maple syrup will be boiled, poured onto crushed ice, rolled up on a popsicle stick and savoured! White Meadows Farms has been a family run business since 1937 and have plenty of sweet treats available for you year round.
Marriott on the Falls - Apple Duo & Acoustics
Not just for Americans, this stop features apple pie on a stick paired with fresh mulled warm apple cider, all in the shape of a maple leaf! After you grab your snack and drink, head over the lounge to hear live, acoustic music as you soak in the ambiance of the holiday season.
Radisson Hotel & Suites Fallsview - Chocolate FX Deliciousness
Quite possibly the best hot chocolate I’ve ever had, topped with fresh whipped cream, has set the bar very high for every other hot chocolate out there. The friendly team at Chocolate FX are experts at what they do and I dare you to find a better hot chocolate in town.
Skylon Tower - Ride to the Top
Make sure you camera and or phone is fully charged as taking the quick jaunt to the top of the tower offers beautiful panoramic views of Niagara Falls and all of the vibrant colours that bring it to life.
Niagara Parks Incline Railway
As the name suggests, this cool ride gives you a descending or ascending perspective (and saves you plenty of walking steps!) it’s open year-round, fully accessible and climate-controlled.
Hilton Niagara Falls - Sweet Treats
Stop in to enjoy one sweet treat & a small warm beverage (tea/coffee/hot chocolate) at Mercato Café. Walk around and experience the wonderful holiday decorations while you're there!
Also, check out our article on how to decorate like a pro, courtesy of the designers that added their artistic flair to this wonderful event!
