Great ways to enjoy Mississauga this spring

Although we had a short winter, the frost definitely bit and with spring practically here, layers of clothing will be peeling off to feel that sweet spring breeze.
Sweaters will be swapped for shorts, gloves switched for golf shirts and bulky winter jackets will be relegated for spring coats.
As the days get warmer and days get longer, here are some outdoor ideas to enjoy our beautiful city.

Reconnect with nature

Mississauga is such a green city and it really shines when it’s in bloom.  Driving through almost any part, you will find some lush greenery to enjoy.  Lace up your sneakers and go exploring!
Some great trails to check out are:

1. The Riverwood Conservancy

A little hidden Mississauga gem is The Riverwood Conservancy.  Tucked away behind Burnhamthorpe and The Woodlands, you will find a forest that has so much to offer.  If you’re lucky, you may catch some local wildlife in their natural habitat.  Also, if you’re looking to learn about the local environment, be sure to take advantage of some of the wonderful educational programs offered for kids and adults.

2. Erindale Park

South of Riverwood, along the Credit River you can find Erindale Park.  This is a great spot for family picnics, photos, nature walks, fishing, bicycling and exploration.  Once the weather warms up, make sure to get there early.  This is a hot spot that fills up fast.

3. Rattray Marsh

Did you know that Rattray Marsh is the last remaining lakefront marsh between Toronto and Burlington?  Go out and get lost on the boardwalk that puts you right in the center of the action.  Look out for a variety of wildlife including birds, toads, snakes, rabbits, deer and foxes.

Celebrate the beginning of patio season

Nothing says good riddance to winter quite like a patio.  It’s only a matter of time before you see someone wearing shorts prematurely.  You know who you are.  Here is a breakdown of some of the best places to drink and eat outdoors.

1. Clarkson Village

Clarkson has become one of the fastest growing culinary districts in Mississauga.  With several new restaurants to try, the Village is going to be the hottest place to be for foodies and bar hoppers alike.  Some highly anticipated patios this spring are - Kravingz, Marco Polo Restobar and Capra’s.  Also, some old faithfuls are - The Clarkson Pump and Patio and Fionn MacCools.

2. Port Credit

When you’re looking for a good time, you can’t go wrong with the popular Port Credit strip on Lakeshore.  When you see the gorgeous patio decking come out on the south side of Lakeshore between Elizabeth Street and Stavebank Road, you know what time it is.   Have some pub fare at The Crooked Cue then drink your way from Shore Grill and Grotto all the way to the new kid on the block, Door FiftyFive.  Looking for a little romance with a view?  Snug Harbor has a wrap around patio right on the water to watch the sunset.
Care to see Port Credit from above? Roc'N Doc's has that oh-so-beautiful rooftop patio!

3. City Centre

At the "center" of it all, the contagious energy in City Centre is real.  The metropolitan core of the city really sets the stage for some good patio sitting.  You can watch all the action going on while you sip a cocktail from some of the largest patios in Mississauga.   Bier Mrkt, Failte, Jack Astors, Scaddabush and &Co. are all great spots to live the patio life like a boss.

4. Streetsville

That good ol', quaint and beautiful "village in the city", historic Streetsville has some great outdoor options, from Cuchulainn's Irish Pub to The Franklin House to Goodfellas. And who could forget the new Streetsville Square!

 Feel-good events of the season

Spring is the time to come out of your winter cocoon and stimulate the mind, belly and heart with events that are satisfying and social.  If you’re looking for a good time, make sure to add these dates to your calendar.

1. Carassauga

Part of what makes Mississauga great is all of the cultures that make up its population.  It only makes sense to celebrate this annually through food, dance, and music.   This year, pavilions for Romania and Ukraine have been added to the festival.   Carassauga runs from May 27-29.

2. Artfest Port Credit

Featuring over 100 artists and artisans, Artfest Port Credit will be an exciting festival to check out this spring.  Gourmet food vendors will be on hand to satisfy any cravings.  Spark some creativity with some of the workshops and demonstrations.  Or just listen to the live music and people watch.  Artfest is happening May 29-31 and admission is free.

Also, Arts on the Credit, happening April 9th and 10th, should not be missed!

3. Mississauga Central Lions Club Farmers Market

Want farm fresh produce and baked goodies without driving to the country?  Say no more.  The Farmers Market is moving into Celebration Square every Wednesday from June 1 – October 26.

Have we missed any? We'd love to hear how YOU enjoy Mississauga in the spring!
