6 Websites to keep you entertained over the Holiday break
Everyone loves the winter break; the hustle and bustle of Christmas and New Years has past, and now you’re stuck on what to do for the rest of the time off. The sun is almost always shining, the snow is falling, the air is fresh! Yet there is nothing you’d rather be doing than lazing around the house wasting all your data. So, to help you do just that, I’ve compiled a list of the top 6 websites to keep you entertained for hours this holiday break.
Taking the number six spot is the very popular blog, Narcity TO. These talented journalists cover everything. Need vacation ideas? They got it. Gift ideas for your special someone? Got that too. Top destinations round Toronto to hit up with your BFF? They have that too. You could spend hours browsing this website. Go ahead, give it a look, you won’t regret it.
Number five goes to CreepyPasta. If you want to keep yourself from sleeping, indulge in some of CreepyPasta’s scariest urban legends. Definitely not for the faint of heart, these stories are completely horrifying and will have you desperate to stop reading, but completely enthralled that you just can’t stop! There are tons of stories you can spend ages exploring. There are several with roots around the GTA. I do warn you not to reads these at night- their vivid descriptions and spine chilling narratives are sure to give you nightmares for nights to come.
On a less scary note, number four is Toonator. If you feel like indulging your artistic side, this site is for you. It’s a simple website that allows you to create little cartoons. You can be as intricate or as simple as you’d like. There’s a gallery to view the creations of others, as well as a page to create your own. You can pass a lot of time on here creating mindless doodles! I’d recommend using this site on a tablet, or something with a touch screen, as you may find it easier to doodle on.
Snopes is where I've spent far too much time. This site is for anyone who has hopped onto the new fad of ‘fake news’ and wants to investigate the truths behind these stories. This website is full of the top trending news stories, urban legends, and almost anything else you can think of that requires fact checking. And you can rest assured that this site only contains accurate and true information, Full of credible sources, you can find just about anything you’re looking for on this site, spending a huge chunk of time just browsing the articles.
Next is Youtube. This list wouldn’t be complete without the addition of probably the most popular video streaming website. Now, you can certainly find ore than just funny cat videos on here. Literally everything is at your fingertips. You can learn new languages, teach yourself to play guitar, learn some interesting facts you’ve never even dreamed of before, and a whole lot more. One of my favourite channels is Matthew Santoro’s. His channel if full of interesting fact videos, branching from history, to gaming, to horror stories, to aliens. He also posts “50 Amazing Facts” vieos which are videos of just lists of fifty things you probably didn’t know. Definitely go check him out if you’re looking to pass time.
And my number one is Pinterest. For good reason too! Not just a site for pictures, these pictures open doors to everything. From workouts, to DIY home décor, to shopping, and even tattoos, Pinterest is your one stop shop for everything you could hope for And don’t worry guys- there are plenty of things on there for you too.
