In preparation for the release of their Canada 150 anthology, the Mississauga Writers Group (MWG) is ramping up its involvement in upcoming summer events which are focused towards the 150th anniversary of Confederation.

MWG Director Elizabeth Banfalvi and several other volunteers from the group have been tireless in their efforts to participate in Mississauga’s celebrations of Canada 150, engaging locals to find out what it is they love about Canada. People were encouraged to take a piece of paper, and write out their answer for the MWG to post behind their table.
At one such occasion, the group’s representatives proudly stood in front of over a hundred such papers.
Always, the focus has been very clear with the MWG. “Because of our anthology, we’re doing ‘Why We Love Canada’ events,” says Banfalvi. “The reason I did that is because I wanted to promote us and our anthology, and the best way to do that is to be a part of these events in our city.”
Amongst the upcoming events in which MWG is taking part include the Ward 3 Family BBQ event, the Clarkson Village Canada 150 Celebration, and the Strawberry Social for seniors at the Central Library. 
Additionally, the MWG will be hosting an event at Studio 89 on the 30th of July, in a culmination of their “Why we love Canada” campaign.

The anthology itself has garnered incredible attention from Mississauga’s cultural circles, as well as from people of all ages and backgrounds. This culmination is being fiercely promoted by the MWG as a clear indication that the city of Mississauga possesses one of the most diverse and artistic voices in all of Canada.

As Banfalvi proudly stated, “We’re giving one copy to the mayor, and we’re going to give a copy of the book to our M.P., and we’ll ask him to pass on a copy to the Prime Minister!”
The MWG was formed in 2013 and has since developed strong ties with the Mississauga Library, as well as gaining more than 100 members. They have a meeting on the second Saturday of every month at the Central Library at 10 AM.
