The Living Arts Centre launches their 20th season

Mississauga's premier entertainment facility, the Living Arts Centre (LAC) has just launched their 2017/2018 season, which is also their 20th anniversary and we've gotta say, they look exceptionally great for 20.
There have been hundreds of performances, events, convocations and many others that have come through the doors at 4141 Living Arts Drive, in the heart of our city.

To celebrate, LAC is presenting several outstanding and  diverse performances.  They've partnered with the likes of the Aga Khan Museum (My Home Land/Sarzamine Man with Dawood Sarkhosh Ensemble), Mississauga Music (Women Who Rock), The Canadian Arabic Orchestra (On the Way to Baghdad), and many more, showcasing a rich variety of local and international voices and talent.

In scheduling this year's performances, they have something for everyone  to enjoy,  whether you’re looking for nostalgic musical dinner and show evenings with The Basically Basie Big Band, or want to explore  the unique sounds and varied genres  of the Blackburn brothers, Patricia O’Callaghan Singing Leonard Cohen, Patricia Cano, David Rudder, Nikki Yanofsky, Get the Led Out, or the Styx tribute show, Rockin’ The Paradise.
Be amazed by diverse dance performances with Shaping Sound, Che Malambo and Mystic India, or enjoy lots of laughs  with Whose Live Anyway?  and Louie Anderson, or the category-defying Machine de Cirque, unlike anything you’ve seen before!  As part of their Wiggle  Club family programme, they have The Underwater Bubble Show, The Gruffalo, and The Berenstain Bears LIVE, which is a perfect way for parents and their children to spend  an evening.

This season, they've merged their Mississauga and RBC Series into the all-new LAC Next Series, where they feature ‘the next big thing’ with bright young talent such as Peter Katz, Alysha Brilla and Amanda Rheaume. After a very successful and popular debut, their 2nd  Annual Best of Open Mic LIVE concert hosted by Tom Taylor has also been  added to the LAC Next Series, featuring the ten best acts curated  from our successful Open Mic LIVE series held in the LIVE Restaurant in partnership with the Mississauga Arts Council.

Rob Hart, LAC's Director of Marketing & Communications for the past six years, had this to say regarding their 20th anniversary: "With this being our 20th anniversary, we are excited to celebrate with a diverse and powerful lineup of artists. There truly is something for everyone. The focus of our celebration is in November and early December with Gordon Lightfoot, Buffy Sainte-Marie and the Oscar Peterson\Oliver Jones Tribute; true Canadian music icons. But of course there is a full lineup of great artists beginning in September and running through May 2018."

The Living Arts Centre is very pleased to have their wonderful neighbour and partner, Simons, sponsoring the exciting Holiday Season line-up in December. The Toronto All-Star Big Band, The Tartan Terrors, the State Ballet Theatre of Russia’s The Nutcracker, Disenchanted, and Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol are just a few of the performances to look forward to!

In recognition  of a milestone anniversary year for the LAC (and Canada!), they will celebrate outstanding Canadian artists who have built an impressive body of work over the decades and around the world. To kick it off, they'll have folk-rock legend Gordon Lightfoot as well as Academy Award, JUNO and Golden  Globe winner Buffy Sainte-Marie to follow soon after. Finally, they cap off celebrations on December  9th  with the jazz event of the year that simply cannot  be missed – a tribute night to the musical genius of Oscar Peterson and his esteemed confrere, Oliver Jones.
