Iconic Chudleigh’s Entertainment Farm and Bakery Celebrates 50 years
This year, Chudleigh’s Entertainment Farm and Bakery marks 50 sweet years. Since 1967, Chudleigh’s has been a tradition for generations of kids and kids-at- heart. Pioneers in the farming and bakery industries, Chudleigh’s launched entertainment farming in Ontario with one of the first u-pick apple orchards in Ontario and, in 1995, invented the world-famous Apple Blossom, a single-serving twist on the classic apple pie.
The apple doesn’t fall farm from the tree
Tom Chudleigh was born into a family of apple growers. In 1967, Tom and Carol began to invite neighbours and friends to the family orchard to indulge in the sweet taste of farm-fresh apples picked straight from the tree. Over the next decade, word of Chudleigh’s Farm spread to the city. The Chudleigh’s realized guests wanted not just apples, but a full country experience. A children’s play area and friendly farm animals were added.
“Early on, we realized that the farm was so much more than just a place to pick apples,” said Tom Chudleigh. “It’s really become a place where family and friends gather to escape busy city life and make memories together. From summer daytrips and birthday parties to the annual fall visit for apple picking, our anniversary is a celebration of our guests’ memories and the traditions they’ve made with the Chudleigh’s family.”
A pie-in-the sky idea
Back in 1973, Carol Chudleigh sold her first apple pie at the farm that launched the family into the dessert business. Together, the Chudleigh family developed delicious creations like the Original Apple Blossom – a uniquely Canadian, single serving apple pie made with Northern Spy apples, and what has propelled the bakery to international success. Since that first apple pie was made in the family kitchen, the Chudleigh’s family has opened a 110,000-square-foot bakery just five minutes down the road from the orchard.
Today, the bakery makes a full line of made-from-scratch desserts with simple, high-quality ingredients. From Apple Blossoms to scrumptious cakes like Butter Toffee Sticky Cake and Pineapple Upside Down Cake, Chudleigh’s desserts are frozen fresh from the oven and delivered to grocery freezers around the world.

The Chudleighs first invited people to visit the family’s apple farm in Milton, Ontario, in 1967. The family was inspired to see how families from nearby cities loved this taste of country life, and how a sunny fall day on the farm just seemed to turn everybody into a kid. Fresh apple pie seemed like a natural way for visitors to take that memory home with them, so they soon began baking them from scratch on site. And word spread. The farm continues to be a popular destination for many to enjoy in the summer and fall months. Over 100 dedicated full-time employees in a modern 110,000 sq foot bakery, making the desserts just down the road from the farm for customers across North America and beyond. Chudleigh’s has become one of Canada’s real success stories. They have never strayed far from their roots, and it shows in every bite. www.chudleighs.com
