Loblaws opens registration for $25 gift card for price-fixing fiasco

As a means for making up for their super shady 13 year long bread price-fixing shenanigans, Loblaws has officially opened up a registration form that can see folks apply for a $25 Loblaws gift card.

If you purchased bread at either Loblaws or one of their affiliate stores (No Frills, Zehrs, Superstore, etc) you're eligible without proof of purchase...because who really keeps food receipts from 2002, right?

There's no cap on the amount of cards to be distributed at the moment but rest assured, there will be one.

While there's no expiry date on the card, if you do not register by May 8th, you're out of luck in your quest for $25 of Loblaws money, which must be spent on food and not gasoline, alcohol or tobacco.

The fine print and what you should read very carefully says this:

"Agreeing to this release will not impact your right to participate in any class actions relating to an overcharge on the price of packaged bread. However, doing so will mean that twenty-five (25) dollars will be deducted from any compensation that you may otherwise be entitled to receive in any class action judgment against, or settlement with, Loblaw relating to any overcharge on the price of packaged bread in the period between January 1, 2002 and March 1, 2015."

There's been internet chatter about having everyone who receives a $25 Loblaws card donate it to their local food bank, which to us, is a pretty smart idea.

With several Class Action lawsuits already filed, this PR nightmare for Loblaws (caused by being dishonest towards Canadian consumers) won't go away soon and perhaps more lawsuits will be filed.

Here's the link to the registration if you're interested in applying:
