A primer on the 2018 Niagara Falls The Winter Festival of Lights
The most enchanting of Niagara attractions, The Winter Festival of Lights, has become a Holiday tradition for over one million visitors from around the globe. Join them for spectacular light displays, the Fallsview Sound and Light Show, Holiday Lights Tours and over 2 million lights displayed along the Niagara Parkway, Dufferin Islands and Niagara Falls.
The Ontario Power Generation Winter Festival of Lights (WFOL) is currently preparing to launch its 36th season. Planning for the Festival’s award-winning Deck the Falls Holiday Walking Tour began last winter and tickets are already on sale at WFOL.com.
The walking tour allows patrons to tour venues throughout the tourist district in Niagara Falls, with each location offering a different holiday-themed activity. Participating venues feature culinary and gourmet food sampling, holiday beverages, desserts, photo opportunities, live music and entertainment, craft workshops, ice sculptures and more. The OPG Winter Festival of Lights was the proud recipient of the “Best New Event” award for Deck the Falls at the Festivals & Events Ontario 2018 conference.
“Planning for this year’s Deck the Falls began the moment last year’s edition came to a conclusion,” said Tina Myers, Executive Director of the Ontario Power Generation Winter Festival of Lights. “The challenge is continuing to make the event bigger and better every year; but we feel like we did it by adding some amazing new activities. It really will be an exciting experience.”
One of the key new additions to the walking tour is the Skylon Tower, which will feature a ride to the top of the 775-foot fan favourite. Key destinations such as Casino Niagara, the Crowne Plaza Hotel, the Scotiabank Convention Centre and the Niagara Parks Floral Showhouse are all included in the tour. Last year’s popular horse-drawn carriage ride from the Table Rock Welcome Centre to the Niagara Parks Floral Showhouse also returns.
“Deck the Falls is the only walking tour of its kind in Niagara Falls. It allows tour-goers the opportunity to indulge in a variety of experiences at their own pace. The positive feedback we have received from both locals and tourists alike has been outstanding. Deck the Falls has quickly become one of the key events that people are looking forward to each holiday season,” added Myers.
The Deck the Falls Holiday Walking tour takes place Friday and Saturday evenings from 5:00pm to 10:00pm beginning November 30th until December 15th. For ticket information and full event details please visit www.wfol.com.
