6 low cost and high fun Valentine's Day ideas

If you’re still suffering from post Christmas debt – don’t feel bad because you’re not alone. With credit cards still being paid off from the most expensive time of the year, where will you find the funds to give your special person a Valentine’s Day to remember? Fear not, there’s actually quite a bit of activies you can do around the city for little to no cost!

1.    Roller Skating

Take it back to the 60’s and go roller skating at Scooter’s Roller Palace on Windsor Drive! To make it more fun, dress up in your best 60’s outfit and take a lot of Insta-worthy photos. Make it a night to remember. Roller skating costs $9.50 and runs from 6:00 P.M-9:00 P.M on the 14th.

2.    Ice Skating

If you’re looking for something that’s also inexpensive – take your date ice skating at Celebration Square. It gives you a chance to get some exercise as well as hold on tight to your partner for your life so you don’t fall. And if you do – they can just pick you up. The best part about this date is that it’s free, if you have your own skates. But fear not, the cost to rent skates is only $10 for adults, which keeps your wallet happy.

3.    Grab a coffee

After that chilling skate you’ll probably be ready for some type of warm drink. Your best bet is to head over to Fair Grounds Organic Café and Roastery. This hidden gem offers a variety of roasted beans and multiple flavours. It’s also very costly. The shop is located on Ogden road.

4.    Go to a board game cafe

There’s many café’s and coffee shops in the area. But one that differs from the others is Studio.89. This café offers drinks, sandwiches and a fun time. They have board games on the menu and is a great time to break the ice on a first date.

5.    Explore Mississauga’s bar scene

And if you can’t get out of work early, maybe grab a quick drink with your partner in Port Credit. There’s always something to do there no matter what the day or the hour. Door Fifty-Five is one of my personal favourites. If you enjoy a good whiskey – head on over. If you’re inStreetsville, you can’t go wrong with Big Slick Bar and Billards. I mean, beer and pool? It’s an amazing duo that’ll cost you less than a steak dinner. And lastly if you happen to be in the Erin Mills area – take your cutie to The Erin Mills Pump & Patio. It’s a classic bar with great priced drinks. And even better news – they offer a special Valentine’s menu that includes $10 off a bottle of wine!

6.    Grab some oysters

I know what you’re thinking, why oysters? Well at the Pump House Grille Co., located in Port Credit, they are serving Oysters from 5:30 p.m-9:30 p.m for only $1.50 each. But that's not the only place serving this delicious treat, The Wilcox is also serving oysters for $1 each. Another great place is Lucy’s Seafood; only 99 cents per oyster! It can’t get better than that.

So don't let the fear of paying off your debts stop you from playing the game, the love game that is. Get out there and explore some of the city’s great activities this Valentine’s Day to make it one you and your partner won’t forget!
