Six Things to do this Mother’s Day in Mississauga
Mother’s Day is quickly approaching and some of us are wondering what we should get our mothers for this special holiday. Although we know that deep down they are so appreciative of it, many of us hear “You didn’t have to get me anything!” from our mothers every year when we give them their gift. To combat this, instead of buying your mother a typical gift, perhaps consider treating her to a day filled with fun and family time this year.
To help you and your mother have the best day ever, below are six amazing things to do in the city with the most important woman in your life this Mother’s Day.
1. 2018 Mother’s Day Walk Mississauga
Enjoy a day at Streetsville Memorial Park by participating in the Breast Cancer Society of Canada’s annual Mother’s Day Walk! Whether you have been personally affected by breast cancer or know someone who has, this event is all about lifting up people’s spirits, raising money to help find a cure, and giving families a great way to spend their Mother’s Day. Additionally, admission is free and the whole family is encouraged to come out and show their support for the fight against breast cancer. 2. Enjoy High Tea at Benares Historic House
If you and your mom are interested in history, tea and/or fashion, this is the perfect way to spend your Mother’s Day! Mississauga’s very own Benares Historic House is hosting a special day of high tea this Mother’s Day weekend for you and your family to participate in. The event will also allow visitors/tea-goers to explore one of Mississauga’s oldest heritage homes and view antique and bridal fashions from the Mobile Millinery Museum and Costume Archives. But hurry, reservations are filling up quickly, so call 905-615-4860 ex 2110 to book your spot
3. Watch "Suddenly Mommy" at Meadowvale Theatre
Everyone loves a good comedic show and this Mother’s Day, Anne Marie Scheffler is sharing the gift of laughter with you and your mom! On Friday May 11, the hilarious one-woman show, Suddenly Mommy, is coming to the Meadowvale Theatre. The show takes the audience through all the ups and downs of motherhood in a stomach-clenching, funny show that will have you and your mom laughing for weeks! 4. Go for a Walk or Bike Ride
As the weather is finally starting to grant us true springtime temperatures, there is no better time to spend a day in one of the many wonderful spots in Mississauga. From Lake Aquitaine, Malton, Port Credit and Erin Mills to Streetsville, City Centre and Lorne Park and plenty in between, enjoy our outdoors. These communities have quaint shops (support local!) and plenty of picture-worthy views.
5. Make a Day of Baking or Gardening
If you and your mom share a sweet tooth or a special love for the outdoors, then spend Mother’s Day baking or gardening – or doing both! If you’re interested in baking, try your hand at some special springtime desserts! Some classics include: fresh strawberry pie, lemon meringue pie, chocolate covered strawberries and basically anything with in season fresh fruit. For those interested in gardening, consider planting some flowers in your mother’s garden as a beautiful treat.
6. Attend a "Mother’s Day Treat" with the Mississauga Symphony Youth Orchestra at The Living Arts Centre
This one is for all the classical music loving mothers! The Mississauga Symphony Youth Orchestra is celebrating Mother’s Day this year by putting on A Mother’s Day Treat at The Living Arts Centre. The performance is taking place inside Hammerson Hall at 3:00 p.m. on May 13th and promises to praise all the wonderful mothers who come out to the show by performing a number of beautiful classical selections that will leave you in awe of their live orchestra!
