Luca Pizza
On the corner of Bloor Street and Dixie Road, in the High Point Mall, Luca Pizza is, hands down, one of the best original pizza joints in Mississauga, serving hand-tossed, authentic, Italian-style pizza since its establishment in 1975. Using fresh, premium ingredients to make satisfying quality products, Luca Pizza has created a pizza that stands apart from the others. Prices range from $5.00 for slices to $30.00 for full-sized pizza pies.
Maja Prentice Theatre
Located inside the Burnhamthorpe Library, on the southwest corner of Burnhamthorpe Road East and Dixie Road, is the hidden gem that is the Maja Prentice Theatre. An intimate, 201-seat theatre with modern technical equipment — the Maja Prentice is the place for performing arts and live entertainment. The next upcoming production at the theatre is a double bill of comedic one-act plays titled “The Real Inspector Hound” and “After Magritte,” set for Aug. 25 and 26. Tickets can be purchased online.
Nova Pastry & Bakery
Open since 1987, Nova Pastry & Bakery is a prime place to head to for tasty breads, pastries, cakes, desserts, and all of your other sweet-tooth desires. They specialize in Portuguese and other European bread and pastries. The staff prepares all the baked goods on-site for quality and freshness. But, more than just a bakery, Nova also carries groceries, deli meats and seafood from Portugal, parts of Europe and Brazil. Their shop is situated on the south-east corner of Burnhamthorpe and Cawthra.
Garnetwood Park
This large public parks sits on Burnhamthorpe between Ponytrail and Mill Road, south of Centennial Park. Garnetwood Park contains a scenic park setting, tranquil walking paths as well as ample majestic evergreen trees. The park features varying amenities like baseball diamonds, basketball nets, soccer fields, tennis courts and a leash-free zone for dogs of all sizes to frolic around in. It’s an ideal spot to visit to get some fresh air, go for a stroll or bask in the sunlight.
Applewood Trail
The Applewood trail snakes along the Little Etobicoke Creek, from Eastgate Parkway to just north of Dundas Street (near Dixie Plaza). Since the areas between the creek and the trail have been re-naturalized, the surroundings around the route provide for a very green serene view for people passing by. Complete with footbridges and paths that spill out toward nearby parks and playgrounds like Applewood Hills Park and Cedarbrook Park — the trail has much to offer for both the young and old.
Desi Bar & Grill
Desi Bar & Grill, located on Tomken Plaza, is a great source for authentic Indian cuisine in the city. Try the pakora fish, butter chicken nachos, or tandoori chicken (prices range from $7.99 to $17.99). There is a plethora of vegetarian options too, from appetizers to mains, such as fried vegetarian dumplings, vegetable korma or mango salad (prices range from $6.99 to $12.99).
