6 fun things to do in Streetsville

Famously known as “The Village in the City,” Streetsville sits on the banks of the Credit River in northern Mississauga, a quaint and charming community with the largest concentration of historical buildings in the city — many of which have been converted into restaurants, spas, cafes and specialty shops.

In this guide to Streetsville Village, I explore a few local hotspots that relish in the grace of another era, long since passed but immortalized along Streetsville’s historic Queen Street. All in all, It’s only a small taste of the vibrant eats and amusements that can be found in this village. You’ll have to come down yourself in order to truly see everything that Streetsville has to offer.

Border MX

Border MX is an authentic Mexican grill and cantina that invites guests to be part of the family and try traditional Mexican cuisine passed down from generation to generation. Border MX’s menu is comprised of classic dishes that include enchiladas, milanesa pollo, cochinita pibil and quesadillas, ranging in price from $6.95 to $17.99. Streetsville Village Square

In 2014 the brand new Streetsville Village Square was opened following extensive renovations. Currently, It’s a vibrant town square and a gathering place for the local community. There is always a whole slew of events happening at the Square year round. The next upcoming event to be hosted in the Square is the annual Streetsville Pumpkin Parade on Nov. 1.

The Tea Room

Located on the corner of Queen Street and Mill Street the Tea Room occupies the historical Robinson-Bray House, which was built in 1885 and designated as a building of “architectural and contextual value” by the city. Currently, The Tea Room serves as a lounge — providing a relaxing atmosphere that pairs delectable delights with gourmets teas. Serving lunch and afternoon tea, the Tea Room’s menu features light soups, sandwiches and desserts. And, there’s also the wide selection of teas and caffeine-free infusions that the Tea Room is known for.

Streetsville Memorial Park

Located along the banks of the Credit River just south of Bristol Road, Streetsville Memorial Park is a fantastic outdoor park. The park’s amenities include multiple walking paths, nature trails and dining areas, which provide a great spot for family picnics, seating up to 100 guests. Additionally, the park also features a minor soccer field, a softball diamond, the Vic Johnston Arena and community centre, and an outdoor pool.

Saucy

Opened in 2000, Saucy is a family-owned restaurant that offers casual fine dining, relaxing atmosphere and friendly service. The restaurant boasts an eclectic and imaginative menu based on the philosophy that food should simply be delicious. The menu is comprised of an array of dishes from different cooking styles: from Tandoori chicken to Norwegian skrei cod, from seafood spaghettini to Szechuan shrimp and so on. (Prices range from $10 to $42.) Wash down your meal with a drink from one of the bar’s numerous crafted cocktails, specialty wines or maybe a straightforward cold beer.

Streetsville Bowl
