Mississauga looks to be on a path to become more bicycle friendly and need your help to get there

Do you have ideas on how to encourage more people to ride their bicycles in Mississauga or build a culture of cycling? Here is your chance to share your ideas, creativity and passion for cycling to our Bicycle-Friendly Community Workshop on Thursday, March 7 at the Small Arms Inspection Building in Mississauga.

Last year, the City completed Does Cycling Move You – the City’s Cycling Master Plan. It sets out a plan for infrastructure improvements. This one-day workshop will brainstorm ideas, identify priorities and set out an action plan for programs aimed toward becoming a more bicycle-friendly community. The City is partnering with the Share the Road Cycling Coalition who will host this workshop to help chart our path to achieve this goal.

What: Bicycle-Friendly Community Workshop, host: Share the Road Cycling Coalition
Where:  Small Arms Inspection Building, 1352 Lakeshore Road East, Mississauga
When:  Thursday, March 7, 9:30 a.m. – 3 p.m.

Taking Stock
You will help identify programs and projects that are already in place in Mississauga and move the community toward a more bicycle-friendly future. Programming gaps will be identified, as well as opportunities to strengthen existing programs through new partnerships.

Visioning
You will explore short term and medium goals for cycling in their community. This facilitated session is based on the Five E’s framework of the Bicycle-Friendly Communities program and will see participants collaborate to identify priority actions to build a more bicycle friendly community in five years. The Five E’s are: engineering, education, encouragement, enforcement and evaluation & planning. The engineering section will not be discussed due to the recent completion of the City’s Cycling Master Plan, with its extensive focus on new infrastructure projects.
