Mississauga's Alessia Cohle's new song to benefit the Kids Help Phone

In conversation with Mississauga’s Alessia Cohle about her new song All Good and why she’s donating proceeds to the Kids Help Phone.

1. What motivated/inspired you to write this song?

The song was written in Nashville following a near death experience when a large tree came crashing down, destroying the home that myself and my friends were in at the time. Throughout the ordeal, and through a state of shock, I kept repeating to myself that everything was going to be, "all good”. The next day I had a writing session scheduled. Instead of cancelling the session, like I wanted to, I pushed through my state of shock and ended up writing the song with some of my favourite people.

2. Why did you decide to have this benefit the Kids Help Phone?

I chose to have the song benefit Kids Help Phone because I truly believe in their mission and what they are trying to accomplish for today's youth. Mental health awareness is much more prevalent nowadays, which I think is great! Especially with social media and "keyboard warriors" sometimes having a negative impact on people's mental health, I think it's so important for youth, and even adults, to have a safe space and outlet to reach out to.

3. The title is only two words but they're very impactful words - why did you decide to call the song "All Good" ?

While the paramedics and firefighters were at the house, I kept repeating "it's all good" to try and get myself through the state of shock. And I repeated it over and over during the writing session too, and we collectively knew that "All Good" needed to be the song title.

4. What's your favourite line from the verses?

This is a good question! My favourite line from a verse is: "Broken like glass lying on the floor, it's so hard to put it back like it was before; but it's all good". Glass is such a fragile material and when it breaks, you can't always put it back together exactly how it was. Life can sometimes be like that, but in the end things will be okay.

5. How can the community get involved to support this cause?

Proceeds from this song are being donated to Kids Help Phone - so every song purchase, stream, and video watch helps! You can also donate directly to www.KidsHelpPhone.ca

6. Where and how did you record the song given the pandemic?

"All Good" was produced by The Agenda - an awesome group of four guys who not only produced the track, but also played all the instruments on it. We recorded this song during Phase 2 of lockdown, so we were able to do everything either remotely or from a safe distance in their home studios!

7. The pandemic has put pressure on all of us in various ways - what do you want your listener to take away after listening to All Good?

I want people to know, first and foremost, that they are not alone in whatever struggles they may be going through. It may sound cliche but there is hope, there is a light at the end of the tunnel, and everything will be okay. I hope people find some comfort in this song. "All Good" has helped me, and all I hope for this song is that it helps other people, too.

8. Will you continue to write new music over the next few months?

Absolutely! I never stop writing. Even when I'm in the midst of recording new music in the studio, I'm always in writing sessions. I love to co-write, so I definitely see a lot more of that happening in the near future!
