Small Business Profile - Mississauga's Como Construction
In conversation with Mississauga entrepreneur Andrew Cucchiella
1. What exactly does your business do?
Como Construction Inc. is a General Contracting Firm based out of Mississauga. We have coordinated commercial and residential renovations with which we have earned ourselves a portfolio of well-executed renovation projects. Our company can provide full services of project management and contracting for any renovation needs, including 24-hour emergency servicing and estimating.
2. What inspired you to start your business?
Working with my father as a little one, and being taken to jobsites alongside him, inspired me to follow his footsteps in the trades and earn a degree from George Brown College in Construction Engineering. He has been the one to instill hard work, and business ethics into me which are the building blocks to my Construction company today (pun intended!) . After working in the Field for 10+ Years my Father, Massimo has been my inspiration into starting the Contracting Firm. I am deeply rooted in the values he taught me, of treating every client as family.
3. How has your business adapted to the new world?
Coming from a family of Labourers, Tradesmen, and Contractors it was a challenge adapting to the digital world, but I have never been one to shy away from any obstacle, and I hit it with all I am to transform to the technology as it changes. When the Covid 19 pandemic started, the need to educate on the ever-changing requirements to ensure the safety of both my staff and clients became paramount, and I immediately completed all courses offered; now using the skills I obtained when I learned the digital world as now the only options are online. My father always says” you must never get comfortable and always adapt” and I hold those words in high regard. This advice has helped me to keep pushing forward as times change.
4. What are you most proud of from a business perspective?
I am most proud of our work over the years and how much we have adapted in the various fields. Servicing our customers and their positive feedback, gives me great pride in what we do.
5. What's been the largest obstacle to overcome and how did you do it?
Well Covid... This has been a real hit to every industry, as unfortunate as it is, we all as a community must keep on keepin on. With the protocols in place, it has been a challenge, but never impossible. Staying safe is our priority
6. What advice do you have for other entrepreneurs?
Walk that bike uphill so you can ride down the other side. The wind feels better when you worked for it
7. What message do you have for the community as we continue to navigate the global pandemic?
Be patient with the process. As the stresses get unbearable during these times, it is tough for all us, but be sure to check in with family and friends as often as possible.
