Here's how much traffic volume reduction Mississauga has experienced due to COVID-19

As our community and the smarter places of the word come together to reduce the impacts of this global pandemic, there have been a plethora of changes.
Working from home, physical distancing, being safer, increased hand washing, quarantines (both mandatory and self-induced) are a few examples.

With Mississauga being a commuting-based city, the last few weeks have seen a drastic drop in the number of vehicles on the roads and highways.
How much of a decrease is it?

1. Since the beginning of March, overall traffic volumes from  the City’s neighbourhood traffic data collection sites indicate that traffic on Mississauga’s roadways decreased by an average of 49%

2. Neighbourhood roadways saw lower traffic by an average of 38% during the week of March 15-21 compared to the week of March 1-7.

3. Some neighbourhoods saw more than 50% less traffic during this time

4. Traffic volume dropped an additional 18% the week of March 22-29

These figures amplify the seriousness of what we're going through and it's a positive sign that we're doing the right things to "flatten the curve."

Despite the majority of residents doing the simple things asked of them, there are still some that aren't. On April 1st, the City of Mississauga made the decision to close all parking lots for city parks immediately, along with some community centres adjacent to parks.

Expect to see even fewer vehicles on the road as a result, which is a good thing.
Plus, our carbon footprint will be reduced - another positive.
