Modern Mississauga presents Ask The City - What are the new restrictions around social gatherings in Mississauga?
Modern Mississauga and the City of Mississauga have come together to present an ongoing series called “Ask the City.” We’ll share relevant information here and answer your questions about our city.
Today’s question is about the new social gathering restrictions introduced on September 18th, 2020 in response to COVID-19
What are the new restrictions around social gatherings in Mississauga?
As of September 18, the limit to social gatherings for the Region of Peel has been restricted to 10 people indoors and 25 outdoors. This includes functions, parties, dinners, gatherings, BBQs or wedding receptions held in private residences, backyards and parks. It does not apply to events held at venues rented from businesses, such as banquet halls, restaurants and bars, cinemas, convention centres, gyms as well as recreational sporting or performing art events.
Anyone attending a gathering that exceeds social gathering limits may be fined $750. In addition, the Province has introduced legislation that will make it an offence, punishable by a minimum fine of $10,000, to host or organize such an event.
A reminder that face coverings are mandatory in indoor public spaces. Be sure to practise the core four behaviours: physical distance, wash your hands frequently, avoid touching your face and stay home if you are feeling ill.
It’s recommended that you stay in your social circle. A social circle is made up of a group of up to 10 people who can interact and come into close contact with each other. People in the same social circle:
do not have to physically distance
can hug and touch each other
Everyone should continue to follow the Core Four actions recommended by Peel Public Health:
Keep your distance
Wash your hands often
Wear a face covering or non-medical mask where it’s difficult to maintain physical distance and where masks are mandatory
Get tested if you think you have COVID-19
Stay two metres/six feet apart from everyone else in public settings to avoid the spread of COVID-19.
