Modern Mississauga presents Ask The City: Is Halloween back and am I able to take my child trick-or-treating this year?
Modern Mississauga and the City of Mississauga have come together to present an ongoing series called “Ask the City.” We’ll share relevant information here and answer your questions about our city.
Today’s question is about celebrating Halloween safely.
Is Halloween back and am I able to take my child trick-or-treating this year?
Halloween is a time many of us (especially children and youth) look forward to, as we celebrate with family and friends. With the case counts stabilizing and vaccination rates high, trick-or-treating is back and indoor gatherings are permitted with 25 people or fewer.
Here are a few things to keep in mind this Halloween:
Do not participate in any festivities if you have any symptoms, even if they are mild
A costume mask is not a substitute for a face covering and should not be worn over a non-medical mask or face covering as it can be dangerous if the costume mask makes it hard to breathe
Keep interactions brief
Use hand sanitizer often
There is no need to clean or disinfect pre-packaged treats
If you choose to trick-or-treat door-to-door:
Stay outdoors as much as possible
If trick-or-treating indoors, maintain physical distancing as much as possible
Do not crowd doorsteps, take turns
Wash your hands when you arrive home from trick-or-treating and before and after handling or eating treats
If you choose to hand out treats:
Consider wearing a face covering if physical distancing cannot be maintained
Give out only purchased and packaged treats
Do not ask trick-or-treaters to sing or shout for their treats
However you choose to celebrate this year, celebrate safely and have a happy Halloween!
