How two Canadian entrepreneurs reinvented the frozen food industry through their brand, Wholly Veggie

Wholly Veggie Co-founders John Bonnell and David Orr Gaucher

Canadian company, Wholly Veggie has been shaking up the frozen food aisle since its inception in 2017. Co-founders John Bonnell and David Orr Gaucher launched the brand after the duo noticed many Canadians were not consuming enough vegetables on a day-to-day basis. The pair wanted to create an easy solution that simplified adding veggies into everyday meals while easing market demand on the supply chain.

Wholly Veggie Kung Pao Broccoli Tempura & Buffalo Cauliflower Wings

Wholly Veggie offers quality products, free from any artificial colours, flavours or ingredients. All of the items are frozen using only vegetables selected at their most fresh and ripe. The brand’s product line is breaking the notion that the frozen food space is full of lacklustre food that has no nutritional benefits. Wholly Veggie is showcasing that convenience can be healthy, with offerings from pub-style cauliflower wings, pizza and patties to its newest product, the Veggie-Full Meals which all boast good-for-you plant-based protein as well as ingredients that consumers know and enjoy.

“The frozen meal was popularized in the 1950s with a promise of offering a complete meal without having to spend too much time cooking. Sadly, frozen meals haven’t changed much since then, offering little when it comes to health and nutrition”, says John Bonnell, Co-Founder of Wholly Veggie. “We sought out to reinvent the category, focusing on quality ingredients, plant-based protein, and a meal that truly is complete.”

The brand’s line of delicious Veggie-Full Meals delivers over 13g of plant-based protein, can be heated and served in under 10 minutes, and offer over 50 per cent of the daily fibre requirement in every serving. The no-prep dishes ensure consumers can enjoy healthy, flavourful meals without the hassle.

The protein-rich meals come in three mouth-watering flavours including Sweet and Spicy Chickpea (20g of protein), Southwest Broccoli (17g of protein) and Coconut Cauliflower (13g of protein). Like most of Wholly Veggie’s products, the new meals are vegan, non-GMO and completely soy and gluten-free.

Wholly Veggie is available in grocery retailers across North America including Whole Foods, Farm Boy, Metro and more! The brand also offers province-wide delivery directly through its website, making it even easier for consumers to add veggies into their day.
