Modern Mississauga presents Ask The City - Where am I allowed to go fishing in Mississauga?
Modern Mississauga and the City of Mississauga have come together to present an ongoing series called “Ask the City.” We’ll share relevant information here and answer your questions about our city.
Today’s question is about fishing.
Where am I allowed to go fishing in Mississauga?
Mississauga is home to many great places where you can fish. The Credit River and Lake Ontario provide residents and visitors with fishing opportunities on both land and boat. There are actually more than 75 types of fish found in the Credit River, which runs through Mississauga down to Lake Ontario.
As per the Parks By-Law, no person shall fish in an area where it is prohibited to do so and as noted by applicable signage. When fishing, make sure to check in advance if you require a fishing license.
Here are some well-known fishing spots in Mississauga:
Streetsville Memorial Park – This is a great place to try fly fishing. It’s also an ideal spot for Rainbow Trout during the spring. Parking is available.
Riverwood – Nestled along the east bank of the Credit River, Riverwood provides a picturesque spot for fishing. Parking is available.
Lake Aquitaine Park – Excellent spot for young anglers. There are Panfish and Bass (both Smallmouth and Largemouth). The lake is best accessed from the Meadowvale Community Centre on Glen Erin Drive. Parking is available.
Erindale Park – This park has a year-round open season for migratory Trout and Salmon (peaking in September and October). Smallmouth fishing is also good in the summer. Parking is available.
Lakefront Promenade – Shore fishing opportunities for Panfish, Trout, Salmon, Bass and Pike. Parking is available.
Now through August 28, Tourism Mississauga is inviting anglers of all experience levels to check out one of the local fishing charters available in Mississauga. Those that book one will receive a $100 prepaid VISA gift card through the Reel in a Deal promotion.
