Since its inception in 2016, InSitu has embraced the transformative power of creativity in shaping the narrative of place and community, offering a unique opportunity to reconsider, redefine, and reclaim the Small Arms Inspection Building. InSitu 2024: The Lost Edition will build on the award-winning digital version of InSitu2021: The Lost Museum, thelostmuseum.ca. Recipient of the 2021 Web Excellence and Ontario Art Educator of the Year awards, The Lost Museum imagined a mysterious place where all things lost, forgotten, discarded or abandoned found their way. Building on the lore, structure, and model of InSitu 2021: The Lost Museum, InSitu 2024: The Lost Edition will create an in-person experience for audiences as they explore visual art, installations, dance, performance, and music. Featuring the works of over 50 artists and 600 students, the Festival is an immersive experience where physical and dance theater artists embody the roles of Lost Museum 'employees’, beckoning you to explore extraordinary collections within the Small Arms Inspection Building North and unfinished South wings.
The Festival runs for three days at Mississauga’s Small Arms Inspection Building at 1352 Lakeshore Road East from March 21 to 23, 2024, from 6:30pm-11:00pm daily.
Event tickets are available online and at the door for $10.00.
Online tickets can be purchased here.
Co-curators Heather Snell and Jill Hollingsworth will be returning to their roles as InSitu 2024’s Artistic Co-Curators. Recipients of the Community Arts Educator of the Year Award in 2021 for the COVID-19 digital edition of The Lost Museum, Heather and Jill note that “InSitu 2024 will exhibit works by over 600 student artists and nearly 50 professional artists.
“The variety will be tremendous,” says Jill. “Where else can you see sculptures of lost umbrellas, read poetry in the lost letter office or listen to lost stories in a speakeasy of found objects?”
Heather, who is leading her 4th In Situ Festival points out, “InSitu is more than just an event. The collections in the Lost Museum are the result of unique community partnerships that connect established artists, emerging artists, and the community. This type of mentorship with real exhibition and performance opportunities are rare. This makes InSitu not only a fabulous Festival to attend, but also an inspiration to young artists – one that builds careers and deepens the cultural community of Mississauga.”
