6 International Women's Day events in Mississauga
/International Women’s Day, March 8th this year, International Women's day is a day which celebrates the social, economic, political, and cultural accomplishments of women.
There are many local events happening within the city that you can attend to participate in this wonderful day:
1. International Women’s Day Breakfast – Crooked Cue
Start your day off with the most important meal of the day while listening to empowering guest speakers to kick off International Women’s Day. Speakers will include their backgrounds and will share their stories and views on how women impact society. Some of these speakers include Anna-Maria Kaneff from Kaneff Group Companies, Leen Al Zaibak from Lifeline Syria, and Kris Noakes from the Peel Aboriginal Network.
2. Healed Hearts Empowered Spirits – C Café & Banquets
This event is unique because women are coming together to both uplift and recognize accomplishments and honourable women from all over. There will be local speakers from the Peel Region, group activities, speeches, dinner, goody bags, and prizes! This will also be a good way to connect with other women. So bring your business card, your mother, sister and best friend to this event.
3. Women’s Day Tree of Life Pendant Making – Panera Bread
The goal for this event is to stay creative. And what better way than making your own pendants! How it works is you make one pendant for yourself, and another for a woman you admire in your life. What’s good about this event is that it’s partnered with a Women’s shelter to support mothers and other women who are struggling. Feel free to bring donations for the shelter as well. This event begins at 3:30 and runs until 5:00.
4. International Women’s Day #PressForProgress #PinkPaperPlaneDay – 1801 Courtney Park E
Prett & Whitney Canada are celebrating the women that work in their plant by holding two separate events. One which is held at 11:00-11:30 will have cake and coffee and women are able to voice their opinions on how they can promote women even more to reach their highest potential. 11:30-12 will be an attempt to also hold the Guiness World Record for most Pink Paper Planes being thrown. If you want to be involved, register your presence in advance.
5. Two Talks By Two Women – DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel
There will be many speeches about Clinical trials and how to prepare for them. First what will be spoken of is clinical trials and the gender gap. Next, there will be a feature talk which includes lessons told by Velma Marzinotto, BScN, RN, CCRP, Sabrina Ramkellawan, and advocates from St. Michaels Hospital. The event runs from 6:00-9:00 P.M.
6. FMW International Women’s Day Gala – Verdi Convention Centre
The Federation of Muslim Women will host its annual gala tomorrow! There will be many Muslim women that will be celebrated at this event. Vibrant leaders in the community are also recognized. Muneeza Sheikh will be hosting this years event and Salma Hindy will entertain the audience with her hilarious take on being a Muslim woman in Canada.
