Modern Mississauga presents Way Back Wednesday's - The history of Elliott Parliament Street

Today’s topic is the history of Elliott Parliament Street.

Elliott Parliament Street, located near historic Meadowvale Village, in named in honour of William Elliott (1837-1888) was born in 1837 in Toronto Township; son of William Elliott Sr. and Frances Hamilton. William married Ann Jane Jackson in 1862 and they had five children; Ann, William, Florence, Gertrude and Blanch. William operated a prominent general store in Meadowvale Village, while also serving as a notary and Justice-of-the-Peace. William served as a member of the Toronto Township Council from 1866 to 1873. 

He was elected Reeve in 1871. He then represented Peel County in the Federal Government from 1878 to 1882. He died in 1888, and is buried at Churchville cemetery in Brampton.
