Goldthorpe Road in the Mineola East area of Mississauga is named in honour of Thomas William Goldthorpe (1846-1928). Thomas was born on August 30th, 1846 at the Goldthorpe family farm in Toronto Township along Hurontario Street, south of the Middle Road (now the QEW), the son of John Goldthorpe and Hannah Van Every. Thomas married Emma Jane Rymal on January 13th, 1875, and the couple would have 8 children.
Thomas established his own farm along Dixie Road, north of Lakeshore Road. Thomas was politically inclined and was elected Deputy Reeve of Toronto Township in 1897 and 1898. He served as a Councillor in 1900 and 1903-1905, and as Reeve in 1906-1907. He was also a Justice-of-the-Peace. Thomas died on December 25, 1928 in Port Credit, is buried at St. John’s Cemetery at Dixie.
