Today’s question is about outdoor skating rinks in Mississauga.
Will outdoor, public skating rinks open in Mississauga this year? If so, which locations?
The City’s outdoor skating rinks are aiming to start opening the week of December 7, 2020 – weather permitting. Please note due to Mississauga being placed under the Grey-Lockdown Level per Government of Ontario regulations, all indoor rinks are closed.
Skating can take place at one of 26 community outdoor ice rinks, in addition to those highlighted below. The outdoor community rinks are free to the public and open daily from sunrise to 11 p.m., weather permitting.
· Mississauga Celebration Square – the Mississauga Celebration Square (MCS) ice rink is open daily from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., weather permitting.
MCS has launched a reservation system to easily book your skate time at the Celebration Square rink. Effective Friday, December 18, skaters must reserve a timeslot on ActiveMississauga.ca in order to skate on the rink for a 45-minute session. Make a free account to hold your spot! Reservations can be made up to seven days in advance.
Registered participants must check-in at the gate 15 minutes prior to their start time. Skate rentals are available. All rental equipment is sanitized after each use. Those renting equipment will be required to sign a waiver that includes information for contact tracing.
· Burnhamthorpe Community Centre Outdoor Rink – open to the public Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Drop-in skating activities are being planned and pre-reservation will be applicable for each activity at ActiveMississauga.ca. Change rooms will be not be available at this location. Public washroom access will be available.
· Woodhurst Outdoor Rink – opening December 21, 2020 weather permitting. The rink will be open to the public Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Drop-in skating activities are being planned and pre-reservation will be applicable for each activity at ActiveMississauga.ca. Change rooms will be not be available at this location
