Affordable Do-It-Yourself pest control solutions for your home

If you’ve got a home, chances are that at some point, those pesky pests have made an appearance.

While some may use chemicals to eliminate these nuisances, there are plenty of affordable solutions that you can create yourself.

Soapy Water
Soapy water is a smart alternative to harmful chemicals.
Create a solution of two tablespoons per gallon and spray where you want the pests to be eliminated.

Borax and Sugar
Combine equal parts borax and powdered sugar, and sprinkle it where the pests are.
Alternatively, add water to the borax and powdered sugar, place in a sealed jar and poke holes in the lid to attract and eliminate ants.

Lemongrass
Lemongrass oil has a high concentration of a citral, which works as a way to eliminate pests around the house. It also stops the spread of fungi and microorganisms carried by pests.
Combine equal parts lemongrass and water in a spray bottle and spray where the pests are.

Apple Cider Vinegar
To get rid of fruit flies, simply fill a bowl with apple cider vinegar and add a few drops of dish soap and place close to your fruits to keep the fruit flies away.

Coffee Grounds
Using burnt coffee grounds can help keep pests at bay.
Start with a cup of dry grounds, place on aluminium foil and then carefully burn them, which will, similarly to incense, release a fragrance that will repel bugs and mosquitoes.

Peppermint and Spearmint
These two types of mints are very effective for pest control solutions, with menthol being the primary driver for repelling bugs and spiders.
To use, boil the leaves and let it sit overnight. Add in an equal part of rubbing alcohol and put in a spray bottle and disperse as needed.
