Modern Mississauga and the City of Mississauga have come together to present an ongoing series called “Ask the City.” We’ll share relevant information here and answer your questions about our city.
Today’s question is about the reopening of outdoor pools.

When will outdoor pools reopen to the public?

The City’s seven outdoor pools will be opening on Saturday, July 4 for timed entry, in compliance with Stage 2 of the Government of Ontario’s Recovery Plan. Stage 2 permits the safe and gradual reopening and use of outdoor public pools.

The community can pre-register for drop-in swims one week in advance. For example: for swims on July 4, pre-registration would take place on June 27. 

The City will be offering adult lane and leisure, and recreational swims. These swims will have unique formats to meet the additional safety requirements related to COVID-19. This will allow the City to limit the number of people who will be at the pool to ensure safety for all users. If you are 15 or under a guardian (16 or over) is required to accompany you to the pool.

To ensure the health and safety of staff and participants the following precautions will be taken:

·         Controlled access through one entry/exit point

·         Users are to arrive ready to swim, on deck showers will be available

·         Increased cleaning measures in accordance with Recreation and Parks Divisional Standard Operating Procedures

·         Use of physical markers and signage to indicate the appropriate 2 metres/6 feet spacing distance and traffic flow, where appropriate

·         Strict adherence to established employee guidelines, processes and screening requirements, those displaying symptoms will not be admitted

·         On-deck first aid treatment stations will be established for outdoor pools

·         Reduced resting areas and pool capacity

·         Staff will follow all revised CPR and First Aid treatment processes, as amended by the Lifesaving Society

·         Only essential equipment will be provided to patrons and all shared equipment will be disinfected between users

·         Slides, diving boards and tarzan ropes will not be available
