Modern Artist Profile - CMagic5
/In conversation with Mississauga’s young, talented and aspiring artist, CMagic5.
What inspired you to create music?
My passion for singing and performing manifested itself when I was very young and I was already performing to a ‘living room’ audience by the age of 05. The inspiration for writing songs was innate and I had written my first song at the age of 6.
Facing bullying in school motivated me to write and compose my debut EP titled “Destiny’s Calling”.
What does Cmagic5 mean?
As a little girl, I envisioned being a singer/songwriter and created this name. The “C” corresponds to the initial of my first name. The number “5” is my lucky number, being born on the 05th day of the 05th month. Ever since I was little, I always hoped that people would experience the “magic” in music.
What type of music do you create?
While the genre of my music is pop, the uniqueness of my sound is created by fusing other sub-genres into my songs, such as pop/afrobeat/trap like my most recent release “Just Wanna”, or pop/orchestral/rock like “Outta My Head”. My original music has its own identity through my voice and song-writing style.
What's been the largest obstacle to overcome creatively?
I have quite a vivid imagination, which opens up the floodgates to many ideas all at once. This can be overwhelming at first, but once I organize my thoughts and emotions, everything is put into perspective.
What are you most proud of in your creative journey so far?
I am grateful to my parents who encouraged me to earn my credentials as a Classical vocalist from the world-renowned Royal Conservatory. I also landed my first job as a qualified vocal mentor. Being able to share my knowledge with others makes me proud.
What do the next 12 months look like for you?
My biggest goal is to release my debut album by the end of this year which renders a positive message of self-confidence. I also have the honor of being an Ambassador for Star Stuff Charity organization whose mission is to help teens with insecurities build their self-confidence and boost their self esteem.
I am also looking forward to some international radio interviews and collaborating with different producers on remixes, and establishing synergies.
What advice do you have for aspiring artists?
I encourage artists to be their most authentic self always and to never give up and remain focused. Stay hungry for your dreams, and make it happen!
How has COVID changed your creative thinking?
Somehow, the most honest work comes when you allow your creativity to flow. COVID has definitely encouraged me to use my extra time productively and hone my craft.
I have been able to collaborate with other like-minded artists and develop my songwriting skills.
Which 3 artists have inspired you?
Nina Simone, Christina Aguilera & Dua Lipa.
