Learn about Mississauga's The Open Gallery's creative and innovative "Exhibition Box"
/The hyper diversity and visibility of Mississauga is known as a renowned metropolis even during a pandemic. Artists are struggling to create connections and network with like-minded communities as they lack tangible resources. The Open Gallery has crafted an out of the box idea that invites people to a personal experience within a box. Introducing #OGATHOME, the first of its kind, a take home exhibition box that will shape the new decade. Simply put: you get what you see; what people experience at in-person OG events and exhibitions is what they’ll experience with #OGATHOME.
Included in the box is a USB drive with tracks from 5 musical artists: Geneva Lei, Eric Ryan Paul, TC Spades, and Shope. These artists range from R&B, Afrobeats, Rap to Hip Hop and Soul to Lo-fi genres. Shope who has premiered in festivals like CBC Music Festival, SXSW, CMW, and the JUNOS 2020 (later cancelled due to COVID19), has also showcased alongside acts like; Tory Lanez, Jazz Cartier, Tyler Shaw, and Lecrae, just to name a few. Eric Ryan Paul has landed on major music media hubs like Lyrical Lemonade, Escape Tracks, SHEESH, Alona Chemerys, Waveland, RNB Radar and has recently been on Toronto interviews such as vibe105to! Adding on, Geneva Lei, who has been featured on 93.5 and is upcoming in Mississauga as well as TC Spades who is connected with talented GTA artists! A special Open Gallery mix is produced by DJ LX who fuses a range of languages with a dancehall island vibe. About The Open Gallery
The Open Gallery is a mobile gallery based out of Mississauga, Ontario. With so much hidden talent in the community, we strive to help emerging and young artists to step out and publicize the deep-rooted creativity they carry. The OG seeks to consistently recognize new generation artists as an essential part to everyone's life and integral to healthy thriving communities. We are artists just like you, who are committed to a platform of experimental art and associated cultural practices. We aim to build an environment that welcomes a dialogue of critical issues relevant to contemporary art through exhibitions, performances and more.
“We find spaces, we set a date, we put out a call and we curate. From artist to artist: we want you to be seen, be heard and be visible. We are a small team of artists that work together to create a cool space for networking and collaboration within the community!” says Mian as she continues to connect local creatives throughout the GTA in DIY spaces and galleries throughout the city.
