With nearly everyone using a smartphone paired with the popularity and the nearly non-existent barrier to entry for social media apps, we’re in a world where anyone can become a content creator.

Poor audio and stellar video results in a diminished product.
The two types of microphones I use are a wireless lapel microphone and a shotgun microphone so all of my shooting locations are covered. Don’t let wind, background noise and other interruptions derail what could be a strong video.

Tripods
Stability in your videos/pictures are key and using a tripod, monopod, gimbal, selfie stick, etc. are the best ways to do so.

There are various sized tripods and I use both a small and large one for various environments.
Gimbals are popular, are multi-functional with various shoot modes and coming down in price.
There are even some upgraded tripods that have accessories that let you add lights, microphones, a second screen and a power source to them.

Light
Another key component of composition is light, which can take what you capture from good to outstanding.
If your content is vlog style, consider investing in a ring light with a few different intensity settings and remember to place it 45 degrees from you opposed to head on.
If you’re not on camera, a portable light with various shades and brightness, does the trick.
Yes, you can use the built in flash but having a second light source ups your game.

Portable Power
There’s finite battery life per charge on everything, including your phone. Remove the “I only have X battery life left” and replace it with a portable charger. Don’t have a creative session cut short or rush it by running out of power.

Camera Bag
Staying organized and knowing where all your gear is prior to and on location is paramount.
Imagine finding the perfect location at the perfect time with the perfect creative vision only to realize you left your microphone/battery/tripod at home.

Editing apps
The core social media apps have built-in editing capability that’s simple yet useful.

From adding captions, sound, transitions, cropping, etc., find the right app for you.

Some free apps have in-app purchase options while there are paid apps that come with more firepower.  Invest time determining what in fact is right for you and know that features vary from app to app.
