It's official - Ontario peels away licence plate renewal fees & stickers

The recent rumours turned out to be true as the Ontario government is peeling away licence plate renewal fees and stickers for passenger vehicles, light duty trucks, motorcycles and mopeds, as announced on Monday, February 22, 2022.

If you’ve already paid, the government will issue refunds who have renewed their licence plate stickers, with over 7.5 million residents receiving a refund.

To receive a refund, drivers will have to confirm their address is up to date on the provincial website and that they have paid all outstanding traffic tickets by March 7, 2022.

Refund cheques will come in the mail starting in late March and through April.

Ford says:
“We know the rising cost of living has made many things more expensive and can make it harder for families to make ends meet…After two years of the pandemic. People don't need any more hurdles in the way of getting back on their feet and back to normal.
We're just putting that in back into your pocket and it's about affordability. People have been hurt so much over this pandemic and that's a billion dollars going back into the economy.”

Is it an election move? Sure seems like it.

The Ontario government has permitted drivers to use expired licence plate stickers since March 2020.

Do you think this is a smart move financially for the Ontario government?
