With many residents getting married in the next few months, couples have a lot on their plates. Getting married is more than exchanging rings and cutting cake. To help you prepare for the big day, follow these tips on how to get married in Mississauga. 

Obtaining a marriage licence  

Regardless of how and where you choose to get married in Ontario, you will require a marriage licence before the ceremony to be legally married in the province. To apply for a marriage licence, book an appointment and visit the Civic Centre (300 City Centre Dr.) in-person with the right documents. Just remember, the licence is valid for three months from the date of purchase.

Booking a civil ceremony 

A marriage licence allows couples to get married in a religious or civil ceremony. In a civil ceremony, a government official recognizes the marriage. To book a civil marriage ceremony, you’ll need to provide the following documentation: 

  • a valid Ontario Marriage Licence number

  • date of purchase

  • the place it was purchased 

Civil ceremonies (non-religious) are provided by the City Clerk’s Office and held in the Civic Centre Chapel or the Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Garden outside the Civic Centre.

Lights, camera, permit! 

There are plenty of iconic landmarks and scenic views around Mississauga, making it the perfect backdrop for romantic wedding or engagement photos. Everything from looking your best, adjusting outfits and posing with family or friends can be time consuming. Mississauga offers 90-minute blocks with every photography permit, allowing your photographer time to create magical memories. A permit is required if you’re interested in photographing or filming within City facilities, such as arenas, community centres, parks, museums or City Hall.
