Obtaining a marriage licence
Regardless of how and where you choose to get married in Ontario, you will require a marriage licence before the ceremony to be legally married in the province. To apply for a marriage licence, book an appointment and visit the Civic Centre (300 City Centre Dr.) in-person with the right documents. Just remember, the licence is valid for three months from the date of purchase.

Booking a civil ceremony
A marriage licence allows couples to get married in a religious or civil ceremony. In a civil ceremony, a government official recognizes the marriage. To book a civil marriage ceremony, you’ll need to provide the following documentation:
a valid Ontario Marriage Licence number
date of purchase
the place it was purchased
Civil ceremonies (non-religious) are provided by the City Clerk’s Office and held in the Civic Centre Chapel or the Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Garden outside the Civic Centre.
