The Mississauga Food Bank launches their 2022 Thanksgiving Food Drive
/The Mississauga Food Bank has launched their 2022 Thanksgiving Food Drive sponsored by Keurig Dr Pepper Canada with the goal to raise $1,500,000 and 500,000 pounds of food by Thanksgiving. This food drive comes on the heels of their release of The Face of Hunger in Mississauga Annual Impact Report that shows an increase in demand for food bank services across the city.
During their last fiscal year (June 2021 - May 2022), The Mississauga Food Bank and its network of 50+ agencies provided over 5.2 million pounds of healthy and appropriate food - that’s food for over 5.6 million meals for neighbours in need, a 20% increase from last year. Over 30,000 neighbours visited a food bank in Mississauga – almost 7,300 of whom were first-time food bank users. They made over 243,000 food bank visits which is a 50% increase from the year prior.
“We need your compassion and generosity this Thanksgiving as we see inflation and the rising costs of living continue to impact our most vulnerable neighbours,” says Meghan Nicholls, CEO of The Mississauga Food Bank. “45% of our food bank users say that they have to go without food for at least one meal each month. Please keep your neighbours in mind as we start to gather with our loved ones this season. Let’s come together and make a meaningful difference for those struggling to put food on their tables.”
For every dollar donated, The Mississauga Food Bank will be able to provide healthy and appropriate food for one meal for a hungry neighbour, thanks to the support of the community and Thanksgiving Food Drive sponsor, Keurig Dr Pepper Canada.
“We are pleased to partner with The Mississauga Food Bank once again to provide food to those in need this Thanksgiving,” says Coralie-Jade Fournier, Manager of Corporate Communications, Keurig Dr Pepper Canada. “It has been a tough road for many and we recognize that the communities in which we operate may need extra help. No one should have to choose between food and other basic necessities. Together, we are hoping to drive positive impact through this support.”
You can get involved by rallying your community, coworkers, school and family to organize a fundraiser and create a personalized fundraising page. You can also organize a food drive to collect food donations, plus keep an eye out for a team of volunteers at your local grocery store in the coming weeks where you can make a donation of funds and food.
The Thanksgiving Food Drive runs until October 10, 2022. To learn more or get involved, please visit http://www.themississaugafoodbank.org/thanksgiving.
