Modern Motoring - 2025 Nissan Kicks

My parents married in June of 1977, came to Canada later that year and had me in March of 1978. Dad relied on the TTC for three years until 1981, when he purchased a brand new beige Datsun 210. We’d do small day trips and the strongest memory I have was to never, ever touch the cigarette lighter as Dad said it was the “turbo boost” button, referencing good ol’ Knight Rider.

1987 rolls around and he sold the Datsun to our neighbour and replaced it with a Volvo 240 DL station wagon as our family had grown via my sister in 1985 and brother in 1987.

1994 saw my mom get her driver’s license and inherit the Volvo, while Dad picked up a new Plymouth Voyager, which was used for many road trips and family adventures.

Coming back to the Nissan brand, in 2000, my mom wanted a new car; something of her own and not handed down. She picked a base model Maxima in beige with a matching interior from Woodchester Nissan. She’d park in the furthest parking spot everywhere we went. Nobody was dining or denting her prized Maxima! The VQ series engine was a workhorse

I inherited the Volvo, while Dad stuck with the Voyager; everyone was happy.
Then came 2013, when my brother, Josh, got his drivers license, which coincided with him wanting a car. Mom gave him the Maxima and with her wanting something in the luxury world, she upgraded to an Infiniti G37, which she still has today.

I wouldn’t say we’re official ambassadors for Nissan but my sister’s first car was a 2005 Altima, so perhaps the family are ambassadors, at least to a slight degree.

Nissan has been reflective of change, forward motion and advancements in our family and with the all-new 2025 Nissan Kicks, that change occurs again. It takes the role of the discontinued Qashqai and the last generation Kicks, which is now dubbed “Kicks Play.”

Four Nissan/Infiniti/Datsun vehicles have had homes with my family for over 40 years. The new Kicks starts a new generation of first-cars for other families and perhaps, the start of many other Nissan vehicles.
