Why are you running for Councillor of Ward 5?
I am running for Councillor of Ward 5 because of my extensive experience working alongside two City Councillors, a Member of Parliament, and a Member of Provincial Parliament. As a resident of Ward 5 myself, I understand firsthand the issues that concern our community. What matters to the residents here deeply matters to me, and I am committed to representing their interests effectively.

What are your top 3 campaign priorities and why?
My top three priorities for this campaign are:

  • Crime: I am dedicated to advocating for sentencing and bail reforms, particularly concerning car thefts and home invasions. It's concerning that individuals committing these crimes can be back on the streets so swiftly due to the removal of minimum sentences. I believe we need to address this issue urgently to ensure the safety of our community.

  • Property Standards: I aim to enhance property standards enforcement by reducing compliance timeframes for landlords and property owners who neglect their responsibilities. By cutting down the time from 10 to 5 business days and implementing fines, we can hold property owners more accountable. Additionally, I will push for stricter regulations on utility companies to prevent them from leaving temporary cable lines unattended, ensuring a cleaner and safer environment for all residents.

  • Seniors: Building on the progress made with the $1 bus fares for seniors, I am committed to making public transit entirely free for them. Furthermore, I will work towards reducing fees for senior programming at community centres by half, and advocate for the removal of the Education portion of their property tax bills to ease their financial burden. Seniors deserve our support, and I will strive to ensure they can comfortably age in place within our community.

How do you plan to actively involve and include residents in community decisions?
As someone who has been actively involved in Ward 5 for nearly two decades, accessibility and transparency have always been my priorities. Residents can reach out to me through various channels, including phone calls, emails, and they will be updated frequently via emails, newsletters, mobile signs, or neighbourhood canvassing. I firmly believe in consulting the community before making any decisions that affect them, ensuring their voices are heard and considered.

How will you be actively supporting our local businesses if elected?
If elected, I'll ensure local businesses receive prompt attention to their concerns. With firsthand experience as a former Executive Assistant in Ward 5, I understand their challenges and the urgency of support. Through accessible communication channels and proactive engagement, I'll work closely with businesses to navigate regulations, address issues, and advocate for their needs at the municipal level. By fostering strong relationships and implementing growth-focused initiatives, we'll create a thriving business environment benefiting both businesses and residents.

What does Ward 5 currently excel at?
Ward 5 stands out as a vibrant and dynamic community with numerous strengths. As the gateway for international travelers arriving at Pearson Airport, Ward 5 plays a pivotal role in the economic landscape of Mississauga, contributing 25% of the city's total taxes. From thriving tech companies to a robust aviation industry and diverse communities, Ward 5 excels in productivity, fosters a strong sense of community, and serves as the economic powerhouse of the city.
