/In conversation with Mississauga entrepreneur, Mehdi Rahman, owner of Talent Samurai.
1. What does your company provide/do?
Talent Samurai is redefining Human Resources Technology, emerging as a strong competitor to industry giants like Ripple, Workday, and HiBob. Our platform simplifies every aspect of HR management, from legal compliance and payroll to employment law, policies, company culture, and employee engagement. We empower managers to become inspirational leaders, making real-time, informed decisions that create dynamic and engaging team experiences, ultimately driving business success.
Seamlessly integrating with virtual conference platforms like Google Meet and Webex, Talent Samurai gamifies interactions between managers and employees. It's like Dance Dance Revolution for managing people—fun, interactive, and incredibly impactful.
2. What inspired you to start your company?
After 25 years in leadership roles at iconic companies like Best Buy, McDonald's, Publicis, and brands like Paw Patrol and Hatchimal, I was inspired by the convergence of people and emerging technologies. Completing my master's in the 4th industrial revolution, I saw the possibilities brought on by blockchain, large language models, retina technology, biometrics, machine learning, and agentic AI in the workplace. Frustrated by the outdated and cumbersome technology used by many enterprises, I envisioned a future where technology and creativity converge to produce extraordinary results. I believe these technologies, when fully leveraged, can usher in a new age of enlightenment and innovation and Peel can lead the way.
3. What's been the most impactful lesson you've learned being an entrepreneur?
Transitioning from corporate life to entrepreneurship required a significant mindset shift. I've learned that success is 1% idea and 99% iteration. Our original product, a bias-free recruitment platform, evolved significantly after engaging with clients and colleagues. This journey has inspired me to dig deeper and find innovative solutions to business challenges, reimagining how people work together.
4. How do you unwind?
Movies are my go-to escape. They offer a perfect balance of inspiration and cautionary tales. I love the entire movie-going experience, from the buttery popcorn to the immersive atmosphere. It's the ideal way to relax after a long day.
5. What succinct advice do you have for aspiring entrepreneurs?
Think big. Address problems that affect large groups of people, set gigantic dreams and targets, and rally massive support for your cause.
6. What are your goals for 2025?
With the rapid pace of technological change, our goal is to perfect our product for our customers. We aim to make every customer a raving fan by saving them time and resources and improving their lives.
7. How did the Mississauga Starter Company Plus program help you start or expand your business?
I'm incredibly proud to have been part of the Mississauga Starter Company Plus program. As a three-time founder, the program helped me transition fully into entrepreneurship. It provided me with a solid plan to take my idea to market, supported by workshops, speakers, mentors, and practical work. The experience felt like earning an applied Business Diploma and was instrumental in laying out a successful business plan.
