6 must-watch Netflix shows for 2018

Congratulations for successfully surviving another year! Now that’s out of the way, lets focus on the important stuff; what to watch on Netflix this year. If you don’t have a Netflix account, get one. If you were gifted one for Christmas rest assured those people truly love you. Below you will find six must watch shows for 2018. Some are brand new while others are older but with new seasons, so there should be an option for everyone.

Godless

A brand new take on Westerns, we have a town full of women and virtually no men since most have been killed in a mining accident, leading to a very early rise in feminism. This western has interracial love affairs, same sex love interests, an excellent cast and compelling storyline. Add in a sheriff that’s going blind and the fastest gun in the west and you have yourself a hit. Not to mention it is the most liberal western ever, making it perfect for 2018.

Manhunt: Unabomber

If you are a true crime fan this show is a must. An excellent cast allows you firsthand experience in the hunt for the infamous Unabomber, as well as an excellent portrayal of the Unabomber himself. This show gives you both sides of the story and if possible, actually allows you a little understanding into where Ted Kazinsky was coming from.

Mindhunter

Staying with the true crime mentality we have Mindhunter, not for the squeamish or faint of heart. This is a true story that shows you the FBI’s struggle to identify and catch serial killers before they knew what a serial killer was. Using actual recordings from the initial interviews with sociopaths to make the script, this show offers you a chillingly accurate look into the mind of a serial killer. Apparently “hunting a human being is a full time occupation.”

The Crown

If you like Downton Abbey or love period pieces half as much as I do, The Crown is a must watch. Historically accurate, incredible cast and just bloody brilliant! Season two was released early in December so you Netflix newbies have some catching up to do but it’s worth it. Grab a cup of tea, cozy up and watch Queen Elizabeth II grow up in front of your very eyes.

Life in Pieces

If you were worried there wasn’t enough laughter on this list, never fear Life in Pieces is here! A unique take on a Friends/ Office hybrid, instead of one story line per episode you get four mini stories. The cast is witty and relatable as they range from new parents, multi children households all the way to grandparents aging gracefully. There are cringe worthy laughs for everyone.

Big Mouth

This show is NSFW or children; I cannot stress that enough.  Watch this once the kids go to bed because his show is late night comedy gold.  You have children going through puberty with hormone monsters telling them what to do and making them act the way teenagers do.  Parents who are as confused by the kids antics as the children themselves.  As an adult remembering what puberty was like or a parent with kids this Rugrats meets Archer show hits the spot. It’s created by the same people who gave you fantasy football darling The League, so prepare yourself.

Be sure to check out some of these shows or some similar as you fall down a Netflix hole in an effort to keep warm this chilly winter.  Keep in mind the OC and Home Improvement are rumoured to be making an appearance soon as well!
