6 of the World's Greatest Hikes
/We can only imagine that humans have been climbing and hiking up various hills and mountains since the dawn of time. It makes sense, as the first conversation probably went like this:
“Wow, that place is really high.”
“I wonder what’s on it.”
“Let’s go check it out.”
As such, the hiking pastime was invented. Mountains offer a chance for discovery, thrill, and a bit of exercise. Even if you’re not an avid outdoors person, you’ve surely gone on a hike before. Everyone can enjoy being in nature for a little bit.
Now, more and more people are traveling around the world to seek out adventure with their vacations. While people will always flock to big cities to see the sites and museums, there’s still plenty of adventure to be had outside of the city.
If you’re looking to plan an adventure vacation, we’ve got some of the best hikes in the world below to help you choose your next destination. So pack your bags and let’s go!
Zion National Park
Situated in the U.S. state of Utah, Zion National Park has long been a gem amongst hikers and travelers alike. With countless hiking trails, including Angel’s Landing and The Narrows.
The park is filled with visitors year round, as the park is perfect for those visiting during the spring, summer, and fall months. Even if you’re not an expert hiker, there are plenty of trails that can be done in just under a few hours with plenty of time to head back to wherever you’re staying.
Kalalau Trail
It’s time to jetset off to the beautiful Pacific Islands of Hawaii. Hiking along the trail is like hiking around a postcard, with its perfect beaches, crystal clear water, and amazing jungles. The trail itself is about 22 miles, meaning it will take you a few days to complete the whole thing.
That being said, there’s nothing quite like being in Hawaii, and you’ll have plenty of other activities to keep you busy after you’re finished with your hike.
Tongariro Alpine Crossing
Let’s head over to the other side of the world, making our pit stop in New Zealand. If you’re a fan of the Lord of the Rings movies, then you’re well-accustomed to the amazing scenery that New Zealand is blessed with.
This hike is known as one of the best single day hikes on the entire island, and some even consider it to be the best in the entire world. You’ll be surrounded by changing scenery and a few semi-dormant volcanoes that smoulder along the horizon.
Mount Kinabalu
Mount Kinabalu is one of the tallest mountains in Asia and is situated on Borneo. Borneo is an island that is shared by three different countries: Malaysia, Indonesia, and Brunei. The entire island of Borneo is perfect for nature-lovers, but the mountain is the big draw for many.
Although being a tall mountain, the hike is available for beginners and veterans alike. You can take more than a day, but a day is recommended. Throughout the rest of the island, you’ll find a lush rainforest and beautiful beaches, inviting you in for a swim.
Scottish National Trail
If there’s one theme on this list, it’s that some of the best hiking trails can be found on the islands of the world. The Scottish National Trail in itself is incredibly long, coming in at almost 500 miles. You’ll see almost the entire country on your walk through.
That is, of course, if you want to do the entire trail all in one go. Of course there are plenty of other trails within the area if you want to break up your journey. If not, expect to be on this trail for about 5-6 weeks!
King’s Canyon Rim Walk
Located in Australia, King’s Canyon is one of the most incredibly day hikes you’ll be able to find. It’s considered an under the radar location, as many travelers look to visit nearby Uluru.
