Modern Mississauga presents Ask The City - I’ve noticed a lot of cars speeding in my neighbourhood. Is the City doing anything about it?

Modern Mississauga and the City of Mississauga have come together to present an ongoing series called “Ask the City.” We’ll share relevant information here and answer your questions about our city.
Today’s question is about road safety initiatives in Mississauga.

I’ve noticed a lot of cars speeding in my neighbourhood. Is the City doing anything about it?

The City is increasing its efforts to make Mississauga roads safer for everyone by lowering speed limits and installing traffic calming measures to address speeding. These include:

·         Traffic Calming Measures: The City has implemented traffic calming measures including speed cushions or raised pedestrian crossings in neighbourhoods across the city to help reduce speeds

·         Neighbourhood Speed Watch Program: The Neighbourhood Speed Watch program addresses speeding or aggressive driving on residential streets with a temporary radar message board

·         Neighbourhood Area Speed Limit Project: The City is lowering the speed limit in every neighbourhood to 40 km/h, reducing the school zone speed limit within neighbourhoods to 30 km/h, and implementing community safety zones for all schools on City roadways throughout Mississauga

·         Automated Speed Enforcement: Implemented in 2021, automated speed cameras and speed measurement devices will enforce speed limits on Mississauga roadways to  create safer roads for children and people of all ages to walk, run, bike or play

·         ‘Please Slow Down’ lawn signs: Residents can post a ‘Please Slow Down’ lawn sign on their property to encourage safe driving and to lower vehicle speeds on their street. The signs are produced by the City and are free

·         Take the Pledge: This Peel Regional Police program, called #TakeThePledgePeel, encourages all road users (drivers, cyclists, pedestrians – walking or rolling) to do their part to keep themselves and other road users safe.
