Modern Mississauga presents Ask The City - Am I allowed to set off fireworks in Mississauga?
/Modern Mississauga and the City of Mississauga have come together to present an ongoing series called “Ask the City.” We’ll share relevant information here and answer your questions about our city.
Today’s question is about setting off fireworks.
Am I allowed to set off fireworks in Mississauga?
If you are planning to set off fireworks this upcoming May long weekend, you need to ensure that you are following COVID-19 safety protocols as well as the City’s by-law, rules and regulations.
The City allows fireworks without a permit on the following holidays:
Victoria Day
Canada Day
Chinese New Year
Diwali
To set off fireworks on private property on any day other than these holidays, you’ll need to apply for a firework display permit. This permit will outline where the fireworks can be used, but as per the by-law, you can’t set off fireworks in Mississauga on a public street or roadway or in a park without a valid, approved permit.
You should only buy fireworks from a licensed retailer.
To apply for a firework display permit or for more information, call 905-896-5908 or email us at fire.prevention@mississauga.ca. We’ll tell you which application forms you need to complete and how much it’ll cost. Keep in mind that applications must be sent to us at least 14 days before your event.
If you have a complaint about fireworks in your neighbourhood, reach out to the following:
Fireworks on private property: call 311 (905-615-4311 outside City limits)
Fireworks on public roadways: contact Peel Regional Police
Fireworks in City parks: call the Facility Watch Program at 905-615-4060
Reminder that there is currently a COVID-19 stay-at-home order in effect. To do your part to stop the spread of COVID-19, this means that you should:
Not gather indoors or outdoors with anyone you don’t live with
Stay at home as much as possible
Only go out for essential trips, such as groceries, pharmacy, health care, vaccination appointments, helping vulnerable people, and exercise close to home
