Modern Mississauga presents Ask The City - What is a short-term accommodation licence?
/Modern Mississauga and the City of Mississauga have come together to present an ongoing series called “Ask the City.”We’ll share relevant information here and answer your questions about our city.
Today’s question is about short-term accommodation licences.
What is a short-term accommodation licence?
As of January 19, 2021, the Short-Term Accommodation (STA) by-law requires all STA operators to legally license with the City. The licensing requirement applies to anyone renting out all or part of their home for 30 consecutive days or less. Current and new operators of STA rental properties can now obtain their licence online.
To obtain a licence online, operators must:
Be at least 18 years of age
Produce proper government-issued identification
Provide contact information for the person responsible for short-term accommodation
Show evidence that the rental is in a principal residence
Post the City-issued licence number in all print or online advertisements
Pay an annual licensing fee of $250
Comply with the Short-Term Accommodation by-law
