3 more manual transmissions discontinued for 2023 from Hyundai and Toyota

Perhaps the hashtag #savethemanuals should be changed to #rememberthemanuals as three more vehicles no longer offer the option to row your own gears in 2023.

The 2023 Toyota Corolla, 2023 Hyundai Elantra and 2023 Hyundai Venue are the latest to only offer two pedals.

No manual transmission in the 2023 toyota corolla

Starting with Toyota, which recently released the GR Corolla, a hot-hatch, and the Corolla L sedan, Toyota Canada said “With the launch of the all-new GR Corolla, exclusively available with manual transmission, the decision was made to drop the manual option for the Corolla for 2023 model year. In any case, the manual mix for the Corolla was minimal.”
Unsurprising but still a bit sad for those looking for a bare-bones vehicle with a DIY gearbox.
The hatchback only had a CVT option.
However, with the Corolla Cross on the scene, I’m not sure the Corolla Hatch will be around much longer.

CVT/IVT only for the 2023 elantra

Next up is the Hyundai Elantra, which for 2022 had their Essential trim (entry-level) offer a manual and for $1,900 more, you could opt for their version of a CVT, an IVT.
Just like Toyota, Hyundai released a powerful “N” version of the Elantra, which is a delight to drive and yes, comes in a manual.
Here’s Hyundai Canada’s statement:
”For MY23 the manual transmission has been discontinued for the Elantra, with the only exception being the Elantra N, which offers a 6-speed rev-match standard manual transmission with an optional 8-speed automatic, DCT transmission.  I can also say it’s not in the preliminary plan for MY24, however, this can always change. Please stay tuned for updates closer to the market launch for 2024 Elantra.”

CVT/IVT only for the 2023 Hyundai Venue

Finally, we have the Hyundai Venue, which is now only offered in a CVT gearbox.
Same story, different vehicle.
A sliver of new vehicle purchases for the aforementioned tick the manual box so manufacturers are smartly redirecting funds to what people are buying as well and investing in electrifying future offerings.

Below are three screen shots of the three aforementioned 2022 models offering manual transmissions.
