Cooksville to host inaugural Pop-Up Market & Gathering

On Saturday July 8th, Cooksville will host its first ever Pop-Up Market & Gathering at 67 Hillcrest Avenue in Mississauga from 10 am - 2 pm.
This community event features food, fun, games, various vendors and is organized and presented by Heart Comonos, Cooksville Community Hub and TAS, alongside non-profit 8 80 Cities.

Here’s what you need to know before you go!

1. What are some examples of the 30 local vendors?
Ameens Nigerian Food, HalaSweets, Mississauga Quilters Guild, Soch Mental Health, Pretty Little Baskets, Anahata Botanical Art.

2. What types of games will there be?
Giant games! (Giant chess, life sized jenga, ping pong, life size connect four, bean bag toss, inflateable basketball) + others.

3. What types of food will be available?
They’ll include Nigerian & Indian food, sweets & snacks, ice cream, coffee & tea.

4. Where did this initiative stem from?
We heard from the community about the need for vibrant public spaces, welcoming community gathering places, and also concerns with food insecurity and affordability. The idea for the market came from the community organizations in response to that feedback from the community. Earlier this year we held a series of community meetings to gather ideas for the market, which gave the Cooksville community the opportunity to help shape the vision for the market (i.e. local, affordable, family-friendly, fun, welcoming)

5. Why was this location, 67 Hillcrest Avenue, specifically chosen?
TAS owns the site, which is currently vacant. It’s highly accessible by transit and central in Cooksville. The vision for the future site is to create an active public realm (in addition to over 200 new homes, retail and office space) so the market provides an opportunity to test the future concept.

6. The poster says "affordable food" - what's the price point on that to make it affordable?
From free ice cream, to $1 samosas, to $5 meals - there’ll be something for almost everyone!

7. Is there live music?
Yes, we will have a violin busker (Becca Calla) a saxophonist (Sawan) and a Bollywood performer (Sanya)

Here are the times they will be performing on July 8th
Becca 10:30 to 11:30
Sanya 11:30 to 12:45
Sawan 12:45 to 2:00
