Mississauga's Ward 5 Councillor, Carolyn Parrish, Announces Resignation Date Ahead of 2024 Mayoral Election

On February 20th, current Ward 5 Mississauga Councillor Carolyn Parrish announced her resignation date of March 15th, 2024, a little over three months ahead of the 2024 Mississauga Mayoral by-election.

In a written statement, Parrish says “On a matter of principle, I will be resigning my Council seat on March 15th, 2024. I do not believe that Councillors should run for the Mayorality seat while hanging on to a “fall back” position as Councillor.
I pledged not to join a series of Councillors who stayed in Ward 5 for a short time and then moved on to bigger and better positions.
I am not leaving Ward 5.
Should I win the election, I will be in an even stronger position to take care of our ward and pledge to do so.
Also, should I win without resigning my seat, it will then take another three months to elect a new Ward 5 Councillor at at cost of an additional $500,000 to the taxpayers.
For the period of time between my resignation and the election on June 10th, Mary and Nick in the Ward 5 office will carry on business as usual. You should not experience any drop in service whatsoever.”
