Modern Mississauga presents Ask The City - What is the Zoning By-law and what should I know about it?
/Modern Mississauga and the City of Mississauga have come together to present an ongoing series called “Ask the City.”
We’ll share relevant information here and answer your questions about our city.
Today’s question deals with the City’s Zoning By-law.
What is the Zoning By-law? What should I know about it?
Building a garage, setting up a home-based business or renovating your home? Get to know the City’s Zoning By-law and how it might apply to your project.
The Zoning By-law is a “rule book” for how land can be used in Mississauga. It defines setback requirements and looks at permitted uses for residential properties. This is important to all of us as we enjoy the benefits of living, working, running a business and enjoying our own properties in Mississauga.
The By-law addresses things such as:
- building a backyard deck
- where basement entrances can be placed
- how far a restaurant must be located from a residential area
- building an addition
- adding a garage
- installing a pool
- or running a home- based business
The City’s Zoning website contains helpful information like by-law documents, zoning maps and a user-friendly “How to Find Your Zoning” search feature.
