Learn about Mississauga’s 2020 Multiple Myeloma March
/On Sunday, September 27th Orianna Scali and her family will be participating in the 9th annual Mississauga Multiple Myeloma March. An unexpected diagnosis turned into a life-changing event for Orianna’s mother, Korrie Scali when she was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a little-known and incurable cancer of the plasma cells. Even with chemotherapy treatment and a stem cell transplant, it hadn’t stopped the disease’s progression ; Korrie lost her battle in 2016, she was just 50 years old.
This is why Orianna and her fellow Marchers have set a goal to raise $15,000 to help further critical research for this deadly blood cancer.
In the two years since Korrie’s death, Orianna is honouring her mother’s legacy by studying to become an oncology nurse and volunteering at the hospital in Mississauga where her mother was treated. Having seen firsthand the life-changing impact advances in myeloma research are having on those living with the disease, Orianna and her family are intent on raising awareness and funds for myeloma, and will be participating in Myeloma Canada’s 9th annual Mississauga Multiple Myeloma March, taking place on September 27th, at 8:30 am.
Myeloma is the second most common form of blood cancer. Every day, nine new Canadians are diagnosed with myeloma. Despite its growing prevalence, it remains largely unknown.
