Decanting Digest - Our top 5 picks from Savvy Company's 2022 Ontario Craft Cider Advent Calendar
/If you follow Modern Mississauga or Decanting Digest on social media, you may have seen some of our reviews of the ciders that came in Savvy Company's 2022 Ontario Craft Cider Advent Calendar. Here’s a look at our top 5 favourites. This was very challenging to narrow down since every one of the calendar’s 24 ciders brings something unique to the table!
#5: Raindance Rhubarb from Duntroon Cyder House
Rhubarb is such an underused northern crop, and the pure flavour of it that shines through in this traditional cider is one of the best uses of it we've come across.
#4: Cliff Jump Cranberry from Muskoka Lakes Craft Cider
Bala is the cranberry capital of Ontario. The tartness of the cranberry in this cider, offset with the sweetness of the apple, showcases the quality of this world-class Muskoka fruit perfectly.
#3: Eve Goes Badass from Heartwood Farm & Cidery
This cider, which is infused with cayenne pepper and honey, comes with some shock value and packs a rare and interesting punch that we just had to rank high on our list.
#2: Wild Cherry from KW Craft Cider
KW Craft Cider’s take on this popular flavour puts forth a very pure and assertive cherry flavour that’s the star of the show, complemented by apples and a tangy finish. Gorgeous.
#1: Pineapple Mango from Shiny Apple Cider
We don’t always love off-dry ciders, but this one took us by surprise with its uniquely complex, tropical, and fruit-forward flavours. We still catch ourselves thinking about this one. It definitely left us wanting more!
Thanks once again to Savvy Company for curating this fabulous calendar (this is not a paid promotion; we just think they’re great!) and to all of you who joined us for the journey. Please continue to follow along as we review great wines and ciders into the new year and beyond!
